"The Cracked Sky"
The constitutional disposition of longevity. Symbolic use of time passing,
using the primordial earth in the foreground by showing the structure of a
volcanic type of fissure to a very peaceful contemporary skyline. Between
the two, the tortoise, which is itself a symbol of longevity. The dry
conditions portrayed in the middle ground is also symbolic of the time of
drought, which seems to last forever. To make the
meaning of the painting less obvious I used a title which described the
sky when viewed obliquely. A favorite surreal landscape.
